AT WARWICK FARM

WINDBAG DEFEATS VALICARE.

The spring racing carnival opened with tho Warwick Farm Meeting In beautiful weather. The courso >vas in excellent condition. New Zealand .was well represented. Ramplon annexed tho Hobartvlllc Stakes after a great battle between him and the New Zealander, Limerick. Windbag added to his laurels by snatching a half-neck victory from tho unbeaten Valicare, after tho latter had led to within a few yards of the winning post. Tho New Zealenders, Rapine and Royal Tea, finished third and fourth respectively In this race, which was of great interest. This is Valicare. first defeat in eight races in which she has started. Windbag put up a course record, beating Hemisphere's time of liuin 39 »/_sec, made last year, by one and a half seconds. Pantheon's timo in tho Spring Handicap was also a course record. Besides the victories of Kampion and Windbag, Star Stranger made an excellent bid for tho Warwick Farm Spring Handicap, running into second place. Other New Zealanders ran unplaced as follow:— Bright Light in the Hurdles, Young Lichinvar in the Campbelltown Handicap, Count Cavour in the Spring Handicap, Cawnpore and Siaosl in the Gienlee Handicap. There was little chango till the straight was entered, except that the leader slightly increased her advfttage. Once In tlio straight, howevor. Windbag began to decrease tho gap and caught Valicare a few strides from the post. He had the best of a most exciting finish by half a neck. Rapine four lengths away. Time, lmin 38sec.
