CHATHAM CUP FINAL

HONOUR GOES TO SUNNYSIDE

GAME AT BASIN RESERVE,

In the final of the Chatham Cup, played at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, Sunnyside (Christchui'ch) defeated North Shore (Auckland) by 4 goals to 2. There was plenty to interest the 4000 spectators who watched the match, although on the whole the winners held the upper hand. Sunnyside had a superior combination and a strong defence. Sunnyside kicked off, and after some even play they went away, M'Lachlan centring nicely. The goal was cleared, and Shore attacked, but the Sunnyside defence was good. M'Lachlan worked up the wing and crossed nicely to Pickering, who scored with a hard shot. Sunnyside 1, North Shore 0. Shore attacked strongly on resumption of play, but Dacre lost the ball when in a good position. Sunnyside got away again. M'Lachlan beat Jones and centred. Trotter was handy, and headed the ball into the net. Sunnyside 2, North Shore 0. Almost at once Shore scored, Hipkins scoring while Callaghau was on the ground. Sunnyside 2, North Shore 1. Play continued open, if not quite so fast, and there was plenty of incident in the game. Sunnyside worked down to their opponents' goal, and Trotter had an excellent chance of scoring, but he kicked wildly, the ball soaring high over the crossbar. Shore attacked, and Bradshaw put in a dangerous centre. Callagh'an came through nicely and cleared well. A few minutes afterwards Dacre headed dangerously towards goal, and Bradshaw just missed with a shot. Half-time was called soon after. Sunnyside commenced the second spell with dash, and scored quickly, Trotter netting the ball from a great centre by M'Lachlan. Sunnyside 3, North Shore 1. Sunnyside kept up the pressure, and for a while the Shore goal was bombarded with shots. Play was keen, and after a period of exciting football Sunnyside scored again. Trotter broke away by himself, and beat everybody. Sunnyside 4, North Shore 1. Sunnyside continued to press, but eventually Shore made a forward movement which resulted in a score, Woolley sending the ball into the net. Sunnyside 4, North Shore 2. Mr. Kelly was the referee. HOSPITAL (2) BEAT THISTLE (I). , In a curtain-raiser to the Cup final, Hospital just defeated Thistle by 2 goals to 1. Hospital kicked off, and forced the game, but after a period matters became even, and Thistle gave the championship leaders some anxious moments. The first spell was well contested, and it was in the concluding stages that Hospital scored. Gibb kicked hard from half-way, and the goalie, misjudging the flight of the ball, allowed it to pass him. In the second spell Thistle pressed hard, and were ultimately successful in scoring, Wallace netting the ball. With the score even, play was fast, but Ferguson scored for Hospital, and the game ended, Hospital 2, Thistle 1.
