WINDBAG'S GAMENESS

HIS DEFEAT OF VALICARE

RAMPION AND LIMERICK.

(Received 6th September, noon.) SYDNEY, This Day.

Commenting on Saturday's racing at Warwick Farm, the Sydney "Morning Herald" says that in the Warwick Stakes, entering the straight Valicare was well clear from Windbag and Royal Tea. She looked a sure winner, but near the distance she seemed to lose ground, and J. Munro, quick to notice this, sat down and drove Windbag along vigorously, and amid intense excitement caught "Valicare on the post. The result proved Windbag's gameness, and the horse and rider received a rousing reception on their return to scale. The "Daily Telegraph" says that at the conclusion of the race Valicare was beaten by lack of condition, but it was clear that both champions were feeling the pinch before the end was reached. Regarding the Hobartville Stakes the "Telegraph" says that at no stage of the race did Rampion appear like being beaten. He was inclined to weaken in the home stretch. Limerick ran a peculiar race. Were his condition as susceptible to improvement as his conqueror's he would have to be given a great chance of turning the tables when it comes to longer races, but that Limerick was wound up on Saturday is the opinion expressed, and further that he will not trouble Rampion during the next two months. The "Daily Telegraph" comments that Royal Tea's presence in the Warwick Farm Stakes contributed largely to Windbag's success by racing alongside and carrying along his stablemate. There seems to be but little doubt that if Eoyal Tea had not been present Windbag would have been conceding Valicare considerably more than three lengths when rounding the final turn.
