MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Police cases in tho Magistrate's Court this morning were dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M. For being an idle and disorderly person, Jack Mounter, a. labourer, aged 29, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. He was also ordered to remain in the Salvation Army Home for a period to be determined by tho officers of the organisation. Maisie Collins, alias Margaret Collins, a domestic, aged 31, who admitted her second offence of drunkenness, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. In the meantime she is to remain in a home at Christchurch, For drunkenness, Gilbert Campbell Highet, aged 48, was convicted and discharged, and for his first breach of his prohibition order he was fined 10s. A second offender for drunkenness, Jack Williams, aged SG, was fined £1, the amount of his bail. Two first offenders were fined 10s, and a third was convicted and discharged. Two first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s, the amount of their bail, before Mr. W. H. Coy, J.P., at the Mount Cook Police Court this morning. Sydney Arthur Stringer was arrested at Petone on Saturday evening, and charged this morning at the Petone Magistrate's Court, before Messrs. J. Piper and T. Totts, J.P.s, with drunkenness and the use of obscene language. He was fined £1 on the first charge, and £3 on the second charge. The Bench stated that tho fines were not as heavy as they would have been had not the accused consented to take out a prohibition order.
