CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
MR. J. R. DUNN'S ADDRESS.
The De Luxe Theatre was filled yesterday with people anxious to hear Mr. J. R. Dunn, of Boston, speak on "Christian Science, the Friend of Mankind." Mr. Dunn said he considered Christian science the most comforting message mankind had had since the days of the early Christians. It was the best friend of man, and he could substantiate his opinions, for he had had personal experience. He had known of a semi-invalid whose dyspeptic troubles had been fully cured, and this remarkable instance had made him eager to accept and read a Christian science text book. In this book, said Mr. Dunn, he had found what he had been longing for all his life— an understanding of God, logical, simple, and provable. "The moment one begins the study of the.text-book it becomes apparent that his thought of prayer must be revolutionised, and this involves a mighty revolutionising of his conception of God." Christian science classified the discords of material sense as the transient, unreal pictures of the Adam-dream of existence, and shows mortals the blessed possibility of awakening from it. If we could pray the healing prayer of Christ Jesus, we must first learn to rebuke or deny the discordant pictures drawn by the material senses and then cling to the simple spiritual fact of being—to the fact of man's glorious harmony and freedom as the spiritual son of the King. It had been asked, "What do Christian scientists know about sick man?" "He knows a great deal about him," said Mr. Dunn, "and what is most important he knows what is making him sick! Thanks to the Cchristian science textbook, the metaphysician can put his finger instantly on the cause of every disease on , earth. He does not search for the cause in matter, but straightway goes to the mental realm. The speaker did not agree with the attitude of the average doctor, who refused to search this mental realm. What was Satan but sin, fear, and ignorance? We had sin-sick men) fear-sick men, and ignorantsick men. Should we not therefore call to our aid only those physicians, those helpers who know something about prayer, and who knew how to eradicate fear and ignorance and sin?
The speaker, who was well received, was introduced by Mr. Reuben M'Clcery.
