MISTY AND MISERABLE

FOR ALL ENGLAND MATCH

AUSTRALIANS AT FOLKESTONE

GAME ENDS IN A DEAW.

(United Prei* Association.—Copyright.) (Deceived 4th September, 10.30 .a.m.)

LONDON, 3rd September.

A heavy mist throughout the night and morning provented tiio ground from recovering, and the resumption of play in the match, between the Australians and an AH England XI. at Folkestone was delayed until 1 o 'clock. When a start was made it was cold and misty, and the wicket was soft. The attendance was only about a thousand. Jardiiie and Woolley, England's two not-out batsmen, did not last long, the former going out to a magnificently held low left-hand catch by Oldfleld. Woolley was easily taken in the following over, the total then being 76 runs for tho lost of throe wickets. Gregory was unable to get his usual pace on the soft pitch, leading the batsmen to mistime thoir gtrokes. Hendren scored quickly by means of attractive cuts and quick running. As tlio afternoon advanced tho mist became thicker, and the light very poor, and the game developed into something approaching a farce. Calthorpo was admirable all round, and he timed well, cutting and driving vigorously. He was dismissed by a good catch by Hendry at second slip. The board then read 148 rant for seven wickets. Play was interrupted for nearly an hour owing to the light, and wag only resumed in deference to the wishes of the crowd. The last forty minutes was played in an unpleasant drizzle, during which Astill brought off a series of good cuts off Grimmett. He and Smith added 45 runs for the eighth wicket.
