GAMING BILL DOOMED.
j The Hon. Sir Edwin Mitchelson'e Gaming Bill is fated. Not a little mii terest has been evinced in its treatment '/by the House of Representatives, but its doom was sealed early this morning. "Is this just a matter of slaughtering the Bill for this session?" asked Mr. P. Fraser (Wellington Central), when the Prime Minister intimated that it was proposed to read it a second time pro forma. The Prime Minister: "I should, say it is a case of slaughter, or murder." (Laughter.) Mr. Fraser: "It is a most merciful method of slaughtering it." "It is going out with ceremony," remarked Mr. Coates, amidst further laughter. Sir George Hunter (member in charge of the Bill): "I wish to move that the Bill be read a second time pro forma, and referred to the A to L Committee." (Loud laughter.) Mr. Fraser: "Can the Prime Minister see his way to also read the Licensing Bill to the A. to L Committee?" (Renewed laughter.)
