HEROISM AT HOME,

School teachers'and their pupils, the latter, for the greater part, accompanied by their parents, filled the spacious auditorium of the Trocadero yesterday, when a large number of awards for merit wero distributed by the.Association Loopold-Bellan. The prizes given included sums of IQO francs to pupil* of both sexes attending extra classes who had been nominated by their teachers for acts which betokened high character. Among mothers who had been singled out for honours for their meritorious conduct under adverse conditions—classified as acts of "heroisme et les miseres cachees" —were Mme. Barba, a mother of • seven children, Mme. Wietrich, with ten children, Mme. Tastigny, a 22-year-old widow who is bringing up five, Mile. Maria Jamault, who is mothering four other orphans, Mile. Yvonne Morice, who, since she was ten years old has cared for her grandmother and two orphans, and Mile. Eugene Saulin, aged 77, who has spent her life in worikng for her relations. The ceremony, which included a concert given by the young folk, was presided over by the Eector of the University of Paris and was attended by, several representatives of the Government. The founder of the association, M. Bollan, who has just been made . a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, was present. s . ' ■
