Oil Tanker for Australia.
On the Clyde (Scotland) on 24th June the oil tanker Plume was launched. The vessel represents the latest practice in the construction of oil tankers. SEe has been specially built and fitted out for the Australasian trade, and will .be the largest vessel of the kind to reach these waters. The ship, of steel construction throughout, is 460 feet long and 62 feet 6 inches wide, and has a total deadweight of 12,300 tons. Oil will be burned under the boilers. The ■:.w which will number 38, has very comfortable, modern quarters. There are nine main cargo tanks, each fitted with special bulkheads. The carrying capacity of these ia 9800 English .tons —or more than 3,000,000 gallons of oil. The vessel is one of the new type which is being constructed in Great Britain for the Vacuum Oil Company ■±*ty., Ltd., to assist in bringing petroleum products in bulk to Australia.
