AWARD.

At the annual British Empire- Competitions of Industrial Designs held by the Eoyal Society of Arts, Manufacturers, and Commerce in London this year, Mr. F. de la Mare, of' Barbadoes street, Christchurch, -vvon the Owen Jones Medal, the most coveted | award for furniture design in the Empire. With the Owen Jones Medal, Mr. d.c la Mare also took first prize of £20 for his design of a "complete bedroom' suite following British traditions^" and a first prize of £20 for his design 1 of a "suitj of board-room furniture." He was also very highly commended for other work that he submitted to the competition. Mr. de la Mare also brought credit upon himself as a designer in Australia. At the Australasian Competitions held in Melbourne recently he gained first prize in the open class for furniture design, and won high praise for his drawing of an oak sideboard. He won the first prize in this class last year. He was educated at the Christchurch Boys' High School, the Technical College, and the School of Art. • •
