BOARD OF HEALTH

MEDICAL RESEARCH.

At a meeting of the Board of Health held this week, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine (Director-General of Health), who presided in the absence of the Minister of Health, stated that the Government had placed £5000 on the Estimates for medical research, and that this money had already been drawn upon to meet the cost of researches in hand. The board issued a requisition requiring the Whangarei Borough Council to provide sanitary conveniences at Kensington Park, at a cost of £1050. A recommendation, that the board requisition the Stratford Borough Council to provide sanitary conveniences, was received from the Medical Officer of Health, Wellington. The Medical Officer explained that a loan proposal to provide for these conveniences had been carried in 1020, but owing to the difficulty of securing a suitable site, the authority had lapsed, and the council now desired the board's authority to go ahead with the work. The cost would not exceed £1500. The board decided to issue the requisition.
