MR. EDWAED HENEY PENNY.

BLENHEIM, 3rd September.

The death occurred yesterday afternoon nnder painfully sudden circumstances of Mr. Edward Henry Penny, one of Blenheim's best-known and most highly esteemed public men. Mr. Penny had been in indifferent health for two or three weeks, but was apparently fairly good in health yesterday morning. Late in the afternoon, howover, he was found in bed, having apparently passed away quietly in his sleep. Mr. Penny |ettled in Blenheim in 1885, purchasing a stationery and book business. He became Mayor in 1905, and for a long period was a member of the Wairau Hospital Board. Ho was prominently associated with the Methodist Church, of which ho was a lay preacher. In 1920 Mr. Penny was vice-president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference. He was a member of the Blenheim School Committee for nearly thirty years,- and chairman since 1901. He was a member of the Wellington Education Board, and chairman of the Board of Governors of Marlboroogh College. In :"19 Mr. Penny contested unsuccessfully the Wairau seat in the House of Representatives in the Reform interests.
