CHRISTCHURCH WIN SOUTH ISLAND FIXTURE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, 2nd Sept. The South Island secondary schools football tournament concluded to-day under perfect playing conditions, which made for bright displays. In the first game Timaru defeated Southland by 29 points to 9. For the final between Christchurch and Otago a big crowd attended and were provided with an exhibition of fast, open football. Christchurch won by 13 points to 3, made up by one unconverted try, two penalty goals, and a field goal, to one unconverted try. At half-time the score was 4-3 in Christchurch's favour. The teams were evenly matched, but the Christchurch backs were better exponents of handling and although defending for the greater part of the game managed to make more of their opportunities than Otago.
