SALVAGED CARGO
CONSIGNMENTS FROM PORT KEMBLA PREVIOUS REPORTS INCORRECT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.). CHRISTCHURCH, 2nd September. Messrs. Kinsey and Co., Ltd., Christchurch agents for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, have received advice from the head oflico in New Zealand that the report which appeared in several newspapers that the schooner Leone Louise had left Kingston, Jamaica, for New Zealand with 350 tons of cargo salved from the Port Keinbla is incorrect. The London office was cabled for information and for further advice regarding the forwarding of salved cargo. The following reply was received: — "Port Keinbla. Schooner Leone Louise has landed 400 tons at Kingston. Details of this -and of the 600 or 700 tons previously landed at Kingston by the steamer Register are expected in London about ten days hence. Special arrangements aro being made to furnish shippers with details as soon as possible after their receipt in London. A further 400 tons is expected shortly at Kingston by another schooner and shippers will be advised immediately on receipt of details. The above represents the total salved cargo. The Salvage Association's special officer is due at Kingston to-morrow, and his cabled advice is expected shortly. In the meantime arrangements for forwarding or otherwise are in abeyance, and the newspaper reports yon quote aro incorrect. We will telegraph you further as soon as possible." In view of this information, New Zealand consignees are recommended to make further inquiries regarding the forwarding of cargo by communicating with the shippers, as the latter will have full advice in respect of forwarding or disposal of salved cargo a fair time before the mailed details of the cargo reach the New Zealand head office of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line. The 1400 or 1500 tons of cargo salved represents a good percentage of the total, but the exact proportion is not known. A big proportion of the total cargo is for South Island ports.
