A LITTLE GOLD FOUND
SHOTOVER CAUSES TROUBLE HEAVY DROP IN SHARES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) . DUNEDIN, Ist September. In connection with the Kawarau scheme, it is reported that the gauge at Queenstown was still below tho 4ft 4in mark this morning, so that the rise since the gates were closed is still something, loss than an inch. No claimholder is attempting to see how gold can bo won at present. The object in every case is to gain necessary information about the claim for future use. An "Otago Daily Times" reporter was shown three nice little nuggets found yesterday on claim 86. The total weight was 3or 4dwt. They were worth only about £1, but they are of value as indicating the presence of good gold in. the vienity. Kawarau shares have dropped heavily on 'Change, sales being made" at 2s 3d, 2s 4d, and 2s sd. A report from Cromwell to-night states that the Shotover has backed the Kawarau up some nine inches. Prospecting on Natural Bridge claims, workers secured with a dish two and a half ounces, the largest piece weighing C6dwt. Good samples amounting to three-quarters of an ounce are reported from several other claims. One, from the Lower Consolidated', was got out of a crevice. Another, of threequarters, was got out of "Golden Bed." The Vogel's Vision Co. is putting through likely-looking wash. It is stated by a competent miner that no virgin ground has yet been uncovered by the damming of the lake, and that a deep overburden exists.
