(From Our Own Correspondent.) mi ' ■ NELSON, Ist. Sept. I lie Nelson Hospital Board passed for payment general accounts totalling £1131. A progress payment of £425 was made to the contractor for improving the grounds.' The resident surgeon, Dr. Low, reported that 86. patients were admitted during August and 80 discharged, leaving 82 in the hospital. He recommended that a part-time masseur be appointed. The matter was postponed until the next financial year. A request from the president of the Nelson branch of the Plunket Society that the board admit women in the maternity block for 24 hourly test feeding in one of tße single wards was acceded to. The Deputy-Director-General of Hospitals advised that the Department could not agree to the proposal to lease the Motueka Cottage Hospital. The question of alterations would be dealt with by the Director-General. A Rugby match played at Trafalgar Park between the Wellington touring team and a Nelson team resulted: Wellington 18, Nelson 14. The oil-bore in the Mangles Valley, near Murchison, is reported to be now down 1000 feet. The rainfall in Nelson city during August was 2.83 inches. The August average is 3.7 ■ inches.
