DAIRY SHIPPING AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

The question of shlppths dairy produce direct from New Plymouth or via Wellington was among the subjects before the recent annual meeting of tho Taranakl Producers' Freezing Works Company. Mr. J.. S., Connett said that TaranaUl's claim for direct shipments had borne fruit, and he quoted figures in evidence thereof. During July-January last year six direct boats called at Now Plymouth and loaded 24,000 boxes of butter and 5000 crates of cheoso (This included the Port Dunedlti, which took away three allotments.) During that samo period 15 boats loaded in Wellington and they took from tho company's works 70,000 boxes of butter and 81,000 crates of cheese. But from January to June, after the deputation had seen the shipping companies, 12 boats ! loaded direct 87,000 boxes of butler and 112,000 crates of cheese; while on the other hand live boats had loaded their produce at Wellington, taking 10,000 boxes of butter and 16,000 crates of cheese. This,' he thought, went to show they had established New Plymouth as a main port, and, whatever the future might have in storu for them In^the way of shipping, he could not conceive that any very great quantity of produce would go coastwise. This must be very gratifying to the whole industry, because in tlia arguments which had been used.for and against the Control Board, one of the points raised is that New Plymouth Is likely to bo excluded. Now, however, it must be patent to . everyone that. the position was assured and they could look upon Moturoa aii being one of the main ports of the Dominion. TARANAKI OILFIELDS, LTD.
