CUSTOMS REVENUE RETURNS.
The Customs revenues received this year at Wellington, and Auckland respectively are running remarkably close. For the eight months of 1926, onded olsfc August, Wellington collected £1,633,384 and Auckland £1,628,----844, a difference of only £ 4540 in favour of Wellington. For the same eight months o.f 1923, the Customs revenue collected at. Wellington was £1,598,985, at Auckland £1,587,912, a difference in favour of Wellington of £11,076.■ , Again, for the whole financial year, 1925-26, there was only a difference of £.15,485 in two collections each over 2J millions. The figures for 1925-26 were: Wellington £2,576,281, Auckland £2,560,706. But it was not so in the financial year 1924-25, when the Northern city led by nearly £90,000 —Auckland £2,----324,369, Wellington £2,235,011. During the month of August just closed, Wellington collected £235,654 16s 2d Customs revenue, and £4271 10s 2d beer duty. In August of test year the figures were £229,641 10s lOd and £3995 11s 8d respectively. During August, Auckland's collection was £243,711, the largest monthly collection at that port this year.
