WELLINGTON UNION
MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. '
The Wellington Rugby Union's Management Committee met last ovening, Mr. J. Prendeville presiding. Others present were: —Major T. King and Messrs. J. N. Millard, A. J. Griffiths, T. A. Fletcher (Referees' Association), H. D, Morgan, A. Lindsay, W. H. Stainton, H. Murphy, G. F. W. Jackson, and A. E. Neilson (secretary).
The Potone Club was granted permission for its fifth grade team to visit Masterton to play a match there next Saturday.
Approval was given to a request for a return match between the Wellington College and St. Patrick's College old boys' teams.
Permission for the following matches was also granted: Central Depot A.S.C. v. Southern Depot A.S.C. at Christchurch, 18th September; Ford Sales and '• Service .v. Colonial Motor Company, 11th September; J. J. Niven and Co. v. Precision Engineering Company; P. Hayman and Co. v. Combined Druggists; Levin High School v. Selwyn sixth grade, 4th September; "N.Z. Times" v. Milk Depot, 2nd September; The Charles Haines Advertising Agency, Ltd., v. Tho Foster Brown Stereotyping and Eleotrotyping Service, 11th September; Wellington Coach and Motor Body Builders v. Wellington Coach and Motor Vehicle Trades Union. ■
Mr. H. Murphy was appointed to represent the union at the Selwyn. Club's annual function.
The Nelson Union advised that ita junior team- to play the Wellington thirds at Wellington next Saturday would leave Nelson on Thursday night and. leave Wellington again on Saturday night. A- complaint from -the Wellington Club that the Petone sixth grade team last Saturday included some fifth-grade players was referred to the Petone Club for an explanation. A grant of £50 was made to the Wellington Rugby Referees' Association. , Mr. H. D. Morgan was appointed manager of the Wellington team for the southern tour, and Mr. W. H. Stainton was chosen, as manager of the Wellington team to visit Palmerston North on Saturday week. JUNIOR TEAM'S TRIP. The manager of the Wellington junior representative . team, Mr. J. Thompson, reported that the game with the Canterbury juniors at Christchurch last Saturday was fast from start to finish, with good tackling on both sides. The score—3-3 —was a good indication, of the evenness of the teams. The play, however, was not of a particularly high standard. The hospitality of the Canterbury Union was all that could bo desired. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the Canterbury Union, with a special note of appreciation to Messrs.. Maloney and Brittain.
