BACKHAUS.
Wilhclre Backhaus is a great pianist, but ho wears his laurels lightly. On the platform his personality is so genial that one hardly wonders that his audiences return to hear him concert after concert—a tribute not onjy to his art, but also : to his charming platform manner. Australia and New Zealand are indebted to Mr. E. J. Gravestock for tho visit of this famous pianist, and when other concert artists have come and gone, Backhaiis'ii music will live in the memory for a long time. Backhaus will make liis farewell appearance in Wellington at the Grand Opera House next Tuesday.
