Threo cities can lay claim to the inception of tho idea of Hospital Sunday, and the scoffer will note that one of them is in Scotland. According to some records, it was in Glasgow, in 1844, that the first "Sunday" was observed, though people of Manchester have it that tho present 3ystem started there in 1870. A prior claim to their Lancashire neighbours is, however, put in by Birmingham, where it is said that these organised collections began on I.3th November, 1859. London, apparently, was some, way behind, for it was not until towards the end of 1872 that it was decided to make collections annually. . .
