RESOLUTION REGRETTED
The action of the Petone Borough-Coun-cil at its meeting, a fortnight ago in ceasing to allow an enclosure at Korokoro to be used as a pound raised a storm of protest from the hillside suburb, . and a strong deputation waited-on the council on Monday and asked that the pound be reopened, and that food and. water be provided for animals impounded there.' The principal speakers were Messrs. Black' and Gardiner, who described the nuisance caused by wandering stock, and said that the pound was a necessity for the district. The deputation thought the action of the council was high-handed and most discourteoius to the honorary rangers of the district. The borough inspector, Mr. W. B. Gough, who is also poundkeeper, said the position was that the use of the enclosure was illegal, except as a place where stock could be left pending its removal to the Petone pound. The only remedy waß to make the place fit to hold stock without cruelty, to make it. a legal pound, and to appoint a poundkeeper in the district. The ■ council decided to rescind its previous decision, and to make the enclosure available until the Korokoro committee reports upon'1 the whole question. It was also resolved to request Rangers Nickells and Mouat, who had sent in their resignations as a protest against not being informed for the decision to cease to use the enclosure, to reconsider their decisions.
