ACTING-CITY ENGINEER NOT APPOINTED.
Though City Councillors expressed (themselves as quietly confident that isatters will run along smoothly until ?be new City Engineer, Mr. Ot. A. Hart, irrire* in Wellington in ■ November, without necessity for the appointment of an Acting-City Engineer, members of the staff are not so sure of the posijtton. Mr. Paterson relinquished his duties yesterday, and is leaving for Sydney, to visit hia people, on Friday, and as the Assistant-Engineer, Mr. G. W. Brigham, -wa3 compelled to resign _on account of ill-health some little time ago, there is not, members of the staff maintain, either an appointed or a recognised head officer with supervisory #ntrol over all aspects of work carried pt by the Engineer's Department.^ • No announcement as to the appointment of the new Town Clerk can bo expected for some time, as the council has still to' interview certain of the Australian applicants.
