TIMBER IN EXHIBITION BUILDINGS

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I notice a Press report to the effect that a member' of- the House of Representatives stated in the House lut week that the "Dunedin Exhibition buildings were of Oregon pine from floor to ridge boards." This ia not correct, and it is unfortunate the member did not make inquiries and ascertain facts before making such a sweeping statement. .. As official architect to the Exhibition Company, I give below the quantities (approximate) oi: New Zealand jind imported timbers used in the Exhibition buildings, mclu'dinj; art gallery, festival hall, and restaurant buildings:—Hod pine 4,624,624 sup. feet, Oregon 751,170 sup. feet.—l am, etc., EDMUND ANSCOMBK. Dunedin, 30th August.
