MELBOURNE TO SAMOA
VIA NEW GUINEA AND FIJI

MELBOURNE, This Day.
Arrangements have been made for a flight covering 14,000 miles from Melbourne to Samoa, via the East Coast of Australia, Thursday Island, New Guinea, Eabaiil, Santa Cruz, JTew Hebrides, New Caledonia, and the Fiji group. Captain Williams will be in charge, accompanied by a mechanic, who is trained as a pilot, and a wireless operator. Tho flight is expected to occupy two months, commencing early in September.
The flying distance from Melbourne to Thursday Island is between 2500 and 3000 miles. Theneo io Samoa, via the islands mentioned the distance will be about 4500 miles. Presumably -the return flight will be over the same' route. Land should be in sight practically the whole way. •
