LONDON, 30th August.

Playing for Surrey against Middlesex, at Lord's, J. B. Hobbs made 316 not out, thus making a now record score. The previous highest score was 266 not out for Players against Gentlemen last season. This is Hobbs's tenth three-figure score this season, and the 139 th of his career. His season's aggregate is 2766 runs and his average 83. He batted five minutes under seven hours and hit forty-one fours, and gave a chanceless display. Hobbs also created a new record for the highest score at Lord's, beating Holmes (Yorkshire), who scored 315 not out, also against Middlesex, last season.
