SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

A cyclone has been centred off Cape Egmonfc and, except in Westland and Otago, the weather has been unsettled and wet. Some heavy rain has fallen about Cook Strait, and snow on the higher levels in the north-east portion of the South Island. Strong northerly to westerly winds have ruled in the northern districts, south-easterlies about Ccok Strait, and easterlies to northerlies southward.
