PRESS CABLE SERVICE
BROADCASTING AND NEWSPAPER
RIGHTS,
The head office of the New Zealand Press Association issued the following statement yesterday:—
"Complaint has been made to the management of the Press Association that broadcasting agencies are infringing the Copyright Act by issuing cable news to their subscribers. As the newspapers of New Zealand are paying some £40,000 per annum for the fine cable service the public enjoy, they must be protected against piracy of their property, whether by broadcasters or. any other persons. This, therefore, is issued as a warning that such infringements of the law will be followed by prosecution. Tho Telegraph Department had promised that a clauso would be put in the regulations drawing attention to the fact that copyright cables must be respected, but it was overlooked. This, however, does not affect the legal rights of the Press Association."
