TRENTHAM NOTES

. (By /'Vedette.") The Trentham tracks are now beginning to take on a decidedly wintry appearance, but trainers this morning had a choice of two, the sand and the outside of tho trial grass. The lastnamed, though decidedly muddy, was used a fair amount both for galloping and pace work. The steeplechase fences in the centre of the course have been made ready for schooling. After a wild night it was fine but cold at Trentham this morning. Axle was the first to work, his task being seven furlongs on the sand in lmin 37see, being under a good pull all the way. He was schooled over hurdles ■ivith Matu and Zero Hour yesterday morning, all three jumping well., Glument, with I. Tilson up, was schooled over three hurdles, giving a very fair display. Later, with Matu, he was given a working gallop over seven furlongs. Pantagruel and Jubilance were given light tasks. Jubilance, who appears to be sound enough, may be raced at Otaki. She may require some time yet. Thomond hit out freely in a working gallop once round, Black Mint, who looks well, being given a similar task. Tanadees, who looks all the better for his racing at Wanganui, was given a light task. He will be ridden by E. S. Bagby at Ellerslie. Sole Mio and Town Crier were practically on terms at the end of half a mile on the grass in 55sec. Inoe and.Sarty hit out well in a galiop over half a mile, Debate being given a working gallop onco round. Nadarino, carrying B. Reed, was pulling up at the end of five furlongs on the grass in lmin 6sec, the last halfmile taking 53sec. He looks very well. Nadarino and Tanadees leave for the Great Northern Moeting oh Friday. Zaragoza, from T. D. Jones's stable at Eiccarton, will be their companion on the train journey to Auckland, and will be in S. Reid's charge at Ellerslie. Dubious was on the course this morning, but was only trotted. Master Peter has been physicked, and it is unlikely that he! will race again before the Hawkes Bay Meeting. Jemidar, the rising, three-year-old son of Martian and Ayah, will be put into steady work again shortly. J. Lowe expects to receive fatar Kanger again within the next fortnight, ■ the Martian gelding having had a good spell.. Lowe also has in work in addition to Jubilance three rising two-year-olds. The Limond-Commerce juvenile is the property of Mr. O. S. Watkins, but the other pair are Lowe's Austratralian purchases. For the Quantock gelding, who looks a solid customer, the name of Quadrant is' being applied. The Trillion filly will race under the name of Miss Trillion. David Garrick is still being trained at -Trentham, and was on the course, this morning. It is reported that Mr.' C.' E. Elgar's horses, will' continue'to be trained at Tauherenikau, and that David Garrick will return there shortly under the, charge of M. Moronan. J.. M'Laughlin. had his three rising two-year-olds on the track this morning. The two Australian purchases of Mr. W. J. Jorgenson look good sorts. Tho Quantoek youngster from MartianPrincess, who is a chestnut colt, is to race as Laughing Prince. For the Trillion —Nazetta. gelding the name of Billion has been selected. For Nadarino's relative by Kilbroney from Nada the name of Exhibition has -been applied. All three are in excellent order for this time of1 year. A likely looking rising two-year-old filly noticed on the track was a chestnut of good size and substance by Lcighton from Cooing. She was inclined to be on her toes and fretful, probably for want of a mate, but bar accidents she should prove a good sort. It is reported that H. Wiggins will ride for Mr. Eric Riddiford next season, and that he will take up his residence at Trenthani.
