COMPENSATION COURT

LAND TAKEN BY CITY COUNCIL.

Several claims for compensation for properties taken by the Wellington City Council for its milk department in Howe's ilane were heard by the Compensation Court to-day. The claimants were Hannah Freeman and others, who claimed £2278 13s Id for 8.75 perches of land; John Esau Miles, who claimed £4.800 for 24 perches; and David M'Bae, who claimed £380, but whose claim was disputed, by the City Council and the Freeman estate. The Court comprised his Honour Mr. .Justice MacGregor, Mr. Gerald FitzGerald, assessor for the Freeman estate; Mr. H. E. Leigh ton, assessor for M'Eae; Mr. A. Gellatly, assessor for J. E. Miles; and Mr. J. M. Dale/assesj sor for the City Council. : Mr. G. G. Watson appeared on behalf of the trustees of the Freeman estate, Mr. C. G. White for J. E. Miles, Mr. M. J. Crombie for David M'Eae, and Mr. J. O'Shca for the Corporation. (Proceeding.)
