ZAGHLUL AND BRITAIN
eONTBOL OF SUEZ CANAL AT STAKE.
'■ (Sydney Sun Cable.) (Received 25th May, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, 24th May. Tho "Daily Mail," in ' a leader, says that if Zaghlul's return to power means a fresh challenge to British authority it must be met with the utmost energy and decision. "It is satisfactory to know that we have in Egypt a strong representative in Sir George Lloyd, tho High Commissioner, who has already largely repaired his predecessor's mistakes," says the writer. "Egyptian capacity to govern is at present on its trial, but the choice of Zaghlul is particularly unsatisfactory, because ho is a bitter and irreconcilable enemy to Britain.', But Zaghlul must be reminded that Britain will not be edged or intrigued out of Egypt, as the full control of the Suez Canal is essential for the safety of the Empire, and will be resolutely maintained.''
