SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE
WEEKLY HOURS PROPOSAL.
SYDNEY, 24th May.
The 44-hours conference adjourned to enable the employees to consider a proposal from tho mastu-s that the men work 48 hours one 'week and %4 hours the next week, and these periods alternately, payment to be on the basis of the time worked. The conference will reassemble when the unions have their replies to the proposals ready.
The managements of the Broken Hill Proprietary Steel Works and Ryl-nds Wireworks, have notified the employees that from to-night they will joe required to work 48 hours..weekly, and, if they refuse, further action will be taken.
