M'CONACHY AND TOTHILL MEET
SOME GOOD BREAKS,

The billiards match between » Clark M'Conachy (professional champion of New Zealand) and torn 'Tothill (North of England champion) was commenced on Saturday afternoon. M'Conachy is conceding 2000 in 9000. Opening up the game, he put on a break of 89, which consisted of allround play. Tothill responded with a break of 42, compiled mostly at the top corner. After a short bout of safety the New Zealand champion rattled up a fine break of 104, leaving the balls, safe. M'Conachy was soon back again, and compiled 72, a sequence of 22 nursery cannons beins the feature. The Englishman just missed reaching the century at his next visit, breaking down at a difficult red loser at 97. Spectators were then treated to a wonderful effort by M'Conachy. Getting the ball near the spot end, he set up a splendid" break of 375 unfinished. This break contained sequences of 35, 22, and 21 consecutively, concluding the afternoon gession. The scores were: M'Conachy (in play) 751, Tothill 2243. There was a fairly large attendance in the evening, and considerable improvement was noticeable in Tothill'a play. M'Conachy carried his effort on, but, after reaching 434, missed a difficult cushion [ cannon. Tothill made an all-round break iof 113, following with a top-of-the-table I break of 87. In response, the New Zealand champion delighted the audience with a very quickly-compiled 113, finally breaking down when he misjudged a thin loser. The next item was a break of 193 by Tothill., This break showed the Englishman to great advantage at the spot end. After a bout of safety play, in which MCwachy came out best, the latter ran up ■ HI- Tothill's last scoring chance brought him, by means of losing hazards, to 81. _ M'Conachy then ran to points with 26' unfinished. The closing scores werei Tothill 3072; M'Conachy (in play) 1501.
