MR. MASSEY CONSISTENT' SUP' PORTER OF SCHEME,.
Questioned on the subject of the above cablegram respecting the proposals regarding the naval base at Singapore, the Prime Minister stated that the matter had been vory fully discussed at the. recent sittings of the Imperial Conference in London, and that it was the considered opinion of the Conference that the scheme as outlined by the then Government should be proceeded ■with. , It might, also be stated that naval experts of such-high standing as Admiral .Lord Jellicoe, who had fully investigated the question prior to his becoming Governor-General of the Dominion, and Admiral Lprd Beatty, First Sea-Lord, were also strongly in favour ot the Singapore scheme. . Mr. llassey further stated that he iind been a consistent supporter of the scheme, believing it to' be conceived in the best interests of the Empire in connection with the naval defence of the Pacific. If the proposals of the present Government in England as-outlined by the Daily News" should prove to be correct, ,t indicated not an abandonment? but a modification of the- previous ,' scheme. r
