AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANDERSON WINS IN SINGLES AND

DOUBLES.

(UNITEP PRESS ASSQCIATipN.^COPXRICHT.)

(Received 30th January, noon.)

MELBOURNE, This Day. A strong wind dried the tennis ccurts sufficiently to -enable the finals to be played. Anderson's coolness and ex-' perience triumphed over the impetuous, but at times brilliant, Sehlesinger. The heavy court took the sting from Anderson's deliveries, but he aimed at .keeping the ball in play and allowing his opponent to make mistakes. His " ring" generalship' won the title for the visitor. The contest itself, considering the circumstances, was a worthy final for the championship of any nation. The doubles final was a triumph for Norman Brookes, who played with remarkable skill throughout. Anderson backed him up splendidly, and never once did the pair look like being beaten. Jn the final pf the women's doubles, Misses Lance an. Akhurst beat Mrs. O'Hara Wood and Miss,- Le Messurier 7-5, 6-2.
