AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDED.

AUCKLAND, 29th'' January. The provincial tennis championships concluded to-day. There was perfect weather arid a good attendance. : The high standard of play was. maintained. In the final of the men's singles, "which carries the Koine Cup, Laurenson beat Griffiths, 7-5, 6-3, 6-0. The final of the men's doubles re: suited in„Bartleet and Robson beating Bnnsden and Griffiths, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6 6-4. Miss Marjorio Macfarlane beat 'Miss Howe, 6-2,-. 6-1, in the final of the ladies' smgl es . -j-] le winner overwhelmed her opponent. ' In the final of the ladeis' doubles, Mrs. Marshall and Miss MacC'ormick beat Mis. Hogben and Miss B. M. Knight, 6-3, 6-4 v Good form was shown by all the players," but Miss Knight was affected by previous games. The volleying generally was the principal feature of the match. Mrs. Marshall was very effective on the back hand. , The mixed doubles resulted .as follows:—Mrs. Scott Watson and Brinsden beat Miss B. Witherow and E G Talliss, 6-4, 8-6. Miss Knight and V. R. Johns beat Miss Marjory Macfarlane and Robson, 8-6, 6-3. This was the finest match of tlie tournament, and was a splendid exhibition of combined doubles play. Miss Knight's smashing and volleying was.of the highest class. Robson played up to his best form. Final: Mrs. Scott aWtson and Brinsden beat Miss Knight and V. R. Johns, 9-7, 2-6, 6-2. The losers did not show form equal to that in the previous match.
