The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated' 26th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—"Railway strike dominating factor aud market quiet, buyers holding back unless delivery is guaranteed. Official quotations are:—Butter (slow): New Zealand salted, finest, 20th January, 200s to" 210s per cwt (Is lod to Is lojd per lb); exceptional, 212s per cwt (Is 10|d per lb); unsalted, 2CtU January, 21us to 212s per cwt (Is lOjd to Is IOJd per lb). Other qualities, 20th January, 18is to 204s per cwt (Is 7id to Is Ojd per lb); Australian salted, nnest, 20th January, 2uus to 202s per cwt (Is UJU to Is, Ujd pur lb); unsalted, 26th January, 200s to 204 a per cwt (Is 'JJd to 16 U3d per lb). Other qualities, salted, 26tu January, 170s to l'JSs per cwt (Is «id to Is 9{d per lb). /Argentine finest, 20th January, l7Ss to lS2s"per cwt (Is 7d to Is 7}d per lb); exceptional, 184s per cwt (Is 7}d per lb. other qualities, 20th January, 100s to 176s per cwt. (Is 5d to Is 7d per lb). Danish, 20th January, 210s up to 218s per cwt (Is lid to Is Hid per !b).
"Cheese (firm).—English, finest farmers', 2tith Jauuary, 135s to 145s per cwt (Is 2id to Is Sjd per lb). Canadian, finest and tine (slow), 26th January, white and coloured 104s, 110s, up to 112s per. cwt (lid, HJd, Is per lb), New Zealand finest aud fine, 26th January," white and coloured, 102s, 105s, up to 106s per cwt (IOJd, lid, ll{d per lb)."
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Compauy is advised,. London, 25th January, as follows:—"Butter, choicest salted, 200s -to 208s per cwt. Market affected by strike Distribution much restricted. Cheese, Id's to 105s per cwt. Market slow."'
The Bank of New Zealand, Produce Department, has received the following advice from its London office, under date 2ith January:— "Butter (slow), 204s to 206s per cwt; exceptional, 208s per cwt. Cheeie (slow), white 102s per cwt, coloured 104s per cwt. Strike accentuates dullness of markets."
