MR. D. SMART, LEVIN

No reference to Levin wonld be complete unless it contained something in the nature of a pen sketch of Mr. D. Smart, one of the earliest settlers, yho still finds pleasure in carrying on business in the town. Mr. Smart is primarily a land and insurance agent, and conducts the Horowhenua agency for Horton's Nurseries, the Fruitgrowers' Federation, and the Alliance Assurance Company's local business. He also devotes considerable time to architecture, being a duly qualified man, ands this, combined with his knowledge of buiMing work generally, makes him a ■valuable asset to the district. Mr. Smart would in many ways be sadly missed were he to retire from active work just yet. His knowledge and experience gained of the diEtricts around Levin is of immense benefit to those in search of land. He knows every inch of it, and an important point is that he would npt mislead his worst enemy, and the ■writer knows that he hasn't got one in the world. Mr. Smart is a man of many parts indeed, he is a real genuine resident, a typical Scot, with a great love of his town and district, and, like the many early settlers of the Horowhenua, his word is his bond.
