PARIS, 26th January. " The Chamber has begun its discussion of the Government'-s proposals to strengthen the franc. The discussion' is expected to last for ten days, and then proposals will be hotly fought. The Left bloc have hopes of overthrowing tho Government, but the lattev's defeat is unlikely.

AGovernment, representative declared that the proposals at the outside would mean an increase of 4 per cent. iii the cost of living. It is expected that Poiricare will! endeavour, to close the general discussion to-day, in order to make room for detailed discussion.
