TREATY WITH CZECHS

"" NO SPIRIT OF HOSTILITY j MARKS' DATE IN POST-WAR HISTORY. (EXITED PRIS3 ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (PUBLISHED IK IBS TIMES.) (Received 28th January, 11 a.m.) 'LONDON7-27th January. The Paris Correspondent of " The Times " emphasises the importance of the Franco-Czecho-Slovakian Treaty, and says: i" Although the text is not yet revealed, it is known that it is a treaty of amity and alliance inspired by the principle laid down by the League of Nations, of respect to international engagements and existing treaties. I The two Powers agree to consult each ! other on questions of foreign policy, ! whenever Europe is endangered, in order to secure common action. Both are opposed to any restoration of the Hohenzjllerhs and Hapsburgs^ It is pointed out that the recent visit of Dr. Benes to London was for the purpose of reassuring the British Government regarding tho nature of the Treaty, which is purely defensive, and does not include secret military clauses. If. merely provides for the closest relntibna of the headquarters' staffs of the two countries: So far from being conceived iii a spirit inimical to Britain, it is intimated that the adhesion of Britain would bo welcomed. ■" Undoubtedly, its signature marks an important date in post-war history, especially since it appears to be regarded as a regional agreement designed eventually to form part of a. series of. similar agreements, the general effect o{ which wrtuld consolidate the political arid judicial order of Europe."
