TO IMPROVE WOOL STAPLE.
PostV^ T Yorkshire (writes ."The ijsts London correspondent) Mr Massey visited the residence of Mr F A. Avkroyd, whi/has presented a. Wensleydale ram to :Netv • Zealand. Mr \vk--royd is a manufacturer who. in recent years, has bought a property in Yorkshire, and specialises in this breed of sheep, which has particularly fine woolproducing qualities. The object o£ the presentation is to for Vh T 8 subst"ute wnnot be mad* for the Romney Marsh ram, which is being used very largely i n the Dominion to counteract lung trouble. The Romney attain results, m a certain. coarseness in staple. Mr Aykroyd had a fleece of a B. oßlle/fci> cross on view which showed the deficiencies complained of by the manufacturers, and he had as well SwS 8*? f. a;, Wensleydal« sheep which showed that^there was not this coarseness.lt is a well-recognised breed in the district and is produced ■ apparently for its wool-growing qualities. There were questions asked of the Prime Minister as to whether this type of sheep, which is a big one, would, Se unsuitable because of that fact for rarcass purposes This, however v a matter for the exKtt % -a When the ram ai™<* m the Dominion.
