MEN RETURN TO WORK

PREMIER ORDERS INQUIRY

INDICATIONS MORE HOPEFUL.

(OSlllD PRESS ASSOCIATION. COPIMGBT.)

ISEUIER'S TEMGRAH.)

(Received 26th January, noon.)

LONDON, 25th January.

While the railway peace negotiations .and the National Unio^ of Railwaymen are apparently at a deadlock, a' number of men who joined the strikers are returning to work in various places, notably Hull, where three hundred decided to resume after a five-hour meeting, the voting in favour of resumption being 122 to 37.

Some members of the Locomotive Men's Society are also said to be resuming.

A further hopeful sign is that Mr. Macdonalcl has instructed the Ministry of Labour to inquire into the strike and report "to Cabinet.

Meanwhile, practically all the collieries in South Wales are now idle, and ah the tinplate. and works are closing down.
