WILL CLIPPERS COME AGAIN?
"Captain DowmSn, who has purchased the fine old clipper ship Cutty Sark, with the intention of refitting her, is. a.porsonal friend of mine," said Captain C. C. Dixon, of the Canadian Seigneur, who commanded in sail for fourteen years. "I have not seen the old clipper recently, but I do not believe her timbers will stand cracking too much sail on in the attempt to break records when she is resparred. As regards fact • sailing; I am thoroughly convinced after twenty-five years at sea, that if a new windjammer with fine lines was constructed to-day and a seaman put in charge who had made a special study of meteorological conditions so that every wind could be taken advantage of in the light of recent scientific discoveries, all the oldtime clipper records could be broken easily.
