South-easterly gales were reported about Cook Sti-ait this morning, and the weather has been stormy in various parts of the country during the night, on account of the disturbance which is still in evidence in the north. The barometer has risen in the south above normal, and heavy rain has fallen in the East Coast districts during the night— upwards of two inches in several places. This rain will be of very great benefit, especially to the East Coast districts of both islands.
