LONDON, 22nd January. The ..managers are informed that 'Mr. Bfdmley refuses further concessions. The present offer stands.
The state of the services, witfi some exceptions is_ better than was anticipated. There is no reason why the position should not improve. Nevertheless, reports from the country show a creeping paralysis oyertakSne' industries. Many steel and tinplate works, blast furnaces, paper-mills, hardware, and motor factories are closed owing, to-the shortage of raw materials. The Midland mines also are closing.
