MINISTER INTERVENES
WITH VIEW TO SETTLEMENT.
LONDON, 23rd January. Directly he assumed office Mr. Arthur Henderson put himself into offi-' cial communication' with the strike leaders and railway managers. It is expected that meetings, under his guidance will be convened without delay. _ Meanwhile, in consequence of the action of the Locomotives' Union a conference with the managers is expected to-day. The railway services on most lines have improved. On Tuesday many strikers returned to work. Four Clyde Commoners, determined, not to travel home^by train, abandoned their intention, but finally decided to motor. Other Scottish Labourites are taking the boat to Leith.
