AFTERNOON EVENTS

AUCKLAND WINS JELLICOE CLASS EACE.

The yachting on the harbour yesterday in connection with the annual regatta was generally voted one of the finest Anniversary gatherings' that has been held in Wellington for many years. Conditions remained suitable for sailing during the afternoon events. The wind in-' creased to a full-sail breeze after the luncheon interval, and then dropped considerably, but in every respect itbe weather was excellent for yachting purposes, and all the events on ' the programme were got off satisfactorily. One of the principal attractions in the afternoon was the race for the Jellicoe class boats, in which all six of the Sanders Cup boats competed. The result was a win for the.Auckland boat Eona, which finished 44sec ahead of Konini (Napier), and lmin 2sec ahead of June (Otago). GENERAL YACHT HANDICAP. The largest "field" of the day was seen in the general handicap for yachts, the first race of the afternoon programme. The course was the same as that for keel yachts in the morning. JELLICOE CLASS. The contestants in the Jellicoe class race were: Eona (Auckland), Konini (Hawkes Bay), 'Peggy (Wellington), .Linnet (Canterbury), : June (Otago), Murihiku (Southland), and Claire and Eymn_ (Wellington). The race resolved iteelf in the finish into a contest between the three Eona-design boats Eona, Konini, and June. ; Linnet started about four minutes late. The Eona designers drew away from the .other competitors, and at the conclusion of the i.first time round Eona had a long lead. June started late, but made up the margin of difference and gained third place by dint of fine sailing on the part of her skipper, G. Kellett. Peggy performed disappointingly, arid Eynin did not finish.
