PRIVATE ADVICES

Messrs.Murray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd.,. are torday in receipt of the following wool-market cablegram, from their London agents, dated 22nd January:—"Sales have opened with animation, large attendance of buyers; competition brisk; all sections operating. Greasy merino advanced 5 to 7£ per cent.; scoured merino advanced 7£ to 10 per cent.; crossbred, greasy fine, advanced 5.' to 10 per cent.; crossbred, greasy medium, advanced 15 to 20 per cent.; crossbred, greasy coarse, advanced 15 to 20 per cent.; crossbred, scoured, advanced 10 per cent.; slipe crossbred, advanced 10: per cent." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile" Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London house, under/ date 22nd January:— '

"Wool^ Sales.—There' was a full attendance at the opening of the sales today, competition by Home and Continental buyers being keen, and prices, as compared with the close of preceding series,, ruled about 5 per cent, higher for merino and about IS per cent, higher for crossbred. The opening catalogues wera representative." Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agent, l dated .22nd January, 1924:—"Auctions opened here, to-day with a large attendance of buyers. Competition is keen. As compared with the closing rates-of the last series, merinos are Id per lb dearer;'fine halfbreds,. 50----56's, 2d per lb dearer; baifbreds, 48----50's,. 2£d per lb dearer; fine crossbreds, 46-45" s, 2jd per lb dearer'; medium crossbreds, 4446' s, 2Ad per lb dearer; coarse crossbreds, 40-44 s, 2d per lb dearer low crossbredsi 36-40's, 2d per lb dearer." Messrs.-Dalgety and Co. have received the following advice by cable, dated London, 22nd January:—"Wool sales opened. Attendance of buyers is large. Competition is animated. Selection good. As. compared with last sale's closing rates at London, advances in prices are as follow: —Merino generally, Id to l£d ; fine crossbreds, 2d; medium and coarse crossbred, l£d to 2£d; half bred wools, 2d."
