" Thirty per cent, loster tonnage was launched in British shipbuilding yards in 1923 than during any peace year since 1892," states Lloyd's " Register of Shipping." The total was 645,000 tons, a decrease of 385,000 tons compared Vith 1922, representing 99.2 per cent, of the world's output for 1923, as compared with 41.8 per cent, in 1922 and 58 per cent, in 1903. A total tonnage of 1,643,----000 was launched throughout the world in 1923, a reduction of 824,000 tons compared with 1922, and no fewer than 5,250,000 tor.s compared with the record year of 1919. On 31st December 2,444,0d0 tons were building throughout the world, a reduction of 510,000 tons compared with the twelve months previously.
