While' at Huddersfield (writes "The Post's" London correspondent) a morbidly interesting letter dealing with a visit paid to the Bay of Islands in 1839, was handed over-to Mr. Massey.. It was written by a certain Frederick Dickinson, who. was oil a trading vessel, and addressed to "John Dickinson, Holmfirth, Huddersfield." Relatives of the family have retained it until the present time. Mr. Massey intends to deposit it in the Turnbull Library. According to the writer, tjie Ngapuhi tribe and the Bay of Plenty tribes were at war at tho time of the visit, and some of those who went ashore had the unpleasant experience of witnessing a cannibal feaat.
